South Boston Yacht Club (first) opens.

The clubhouse is located at 1849 Columbia Road. Organized in 1868, it is the oldest yacht club in continued operation in Boston and is incorporated on April 2, 1877. The clubhouse is enlarged and re-dedicated on April 7, 1886. It is torn down to make way for the Strandway and replaced by the current building in 1899.*
